Homeless People

Being Homeless in America

Homeless people are not all drug addicts or mental cases, many homeless people today are college graduates and working people who simply can not seem to find a way to gather enough money together to afford a roof that requires first, last, security, cleaning, utility deposits, and more on make-do jobs that only pay minimum wage.

When minimum wage will not cover the expenses on food, simple transportation, and a roof, there is something very wrong with the system. Today, even when two people pool their funds from minimum wage jobs, there is not enough money to meet normal expenses in many large cities within the United States.

Many working people cannot find homes in the United States today, so that they live with family or friends until enough funds are saved to meet the high costs and fees that are related to moving. These people are also homeless people just like those who are living in their cars or on the streets; they are just not counted into USA homeless totals.

Some experts suggest that a full one out of every ten people in America has been homeless at some time over the last five years. Others suggest that the numbers of homeless people in America are actually higher than one out of every ten people and that they are still going up due to current economical trends.

Within American societies, it is interesting to watch those with thousands and thousands of credit card dollars of debt reacting to the homeless population as if they have done some kind of a crime over their choice of poverty instead of a choice to run up large debts that they can not afford to pay for.

Cities and towns in the USA are attempting to find ways to remove the homeless from their neighborhoods, while not actually having a place to send these people except over to the next community to deal with in the same fashion. Tent cities have sprung up in some of the warmer climates where employed homeless people are living like refugees.

There are some serious problems in America today that have nothing to do with the economy matters that are being shown on television. A large chunk of our population cannot exist on minimum wage jobs, nor exist if somebody were to take their credit cards away. This overwhelming homeless and about-to-be-homeless problem needs attention.
